Riverside ~ Visitors Welcome!

Welcome to the City of Riverside— a community nestled along the beautiful banks of the silent and swift Missouri River. You'll love our pioneering spirit and fierce independence. Our small town feel, proximity to the core of KC, and scenic natural beauty create a mix of characteristics and amenities that are not found elsewhere.

History
Riverside has an interesting and colorful history. Important historical elements include the Native American archeological finds, Tom Pendergast's Riverside Park horse racing establishment and the Interurban Railroad. Read more in City History.

Convenient Access to the Kansas City Metro Area
Riverside's access to the regional transportation network is very strong and within a 15 minute drive it is possible to reach many of the area's amenities. Riverside is 10 minutes from downtown Kansas City and 12 minutes from the Kansas City International airport.

Beautiful Parks
Due to the close proximity of the majestic Missouri River, Riverside has incredible scenic parks. Our parks provide a dramatic backdrop for on-going fairs, festivals and special events. Check our calendar to see how you can have fun in the sun. Visit the Parks and Recreation home page for a complete listing.

E.H. Young Riverfront Park, located on the banks of the Missouri river, sits on Lewis and Clark's expedition trail. This stunning green area has wide-open spaces and includes a brick river-walk, several playgrounds, a paved walking trail, ball fields, pavilions and more.

Renner Brenner Park is the site of significant Indian artifacts and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its unusually rich concentration of ancient Indian artifacts was the motivation for a 13-year excavation. Read more about it in City History.

Homestead Park is Riverside's oldest park. This friendly neighborhood park features two outdoor basketball courts and a playground.

Community Center
Riverside's community center includes a community pool, a full-size gym that is open to the public and numerous exercise classes.

A Great American Small Town
With many of the amenities that a great small town would hope to have — locally popular restaurants such as The Corner Cafe, shopping at Red X which is well-known regionally for an extensive selection of hard-to-find wines, riverboat gambling and entertainment at the enchanting Argosy Casino and beautiful views from limestone hills — Riverside is truly unique.
